In Minnesota someone who slips and falls
on someone else's property may not necessarily be entitled
to file a claim. Laws covering this area are complicated but,
essentially, it is the injured person's responsibility to
prove that the slip and fall occurred because the property
owner was negligent in some way.
For example, you could be shopping at the
grocery store and slip in a pool of milk that was hard to
see on the brightly-lit linoleum floor. If the milk had been
there for awhile and no one had come to clean it up, you may
have a claim. Obviously the amount of time that a property
owner might consider "reasonable" for milk to be on the floor
may differ from yours. That's why it's important to have an
attorney help you navigate this tricky bit of law.
